Open die forgings

Open die forgings up to 30,000 kg in carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and nickel-based alloys, forged under hammers and presses of up to 5,000 t.

Capabilities

  • Maximum weight30,000 kg
  • Hammers and pressesair hammer, electro-hydraulic hammer, 2,500 t and 5,000 t presses
  • Materialscarbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and nickel-based alloys
  • Heat treatmentnormalising, austenitising, tempering, stress relieving, solution annealing
  • Quench transfer60 seconds or less

Typical parts

Shafts, blocks, cylinders and rings; bonnets, casing heads, tubing spools, hangers and connectors for oil and gas equipment; and heavy parts for transmissions, pressure vessels, metallurgical machinery and construction machinery.

From drawing to forging

1

Drawing review

We check the drawing, material and feasibility with the forging plant.

2

Heating and forging

The billet is heated and forged under the hammer or press to the forged size.

3

Heat treatment

Normalising, quenching, tempering, stress relieving or solution annealing, with a short quench transfer.

4

Treatment and testing

Non-destructive testing and mechanical tests follow, with a material test report.

Questions

Carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and nickel-based alloys.

In five furnaces with two quenching pools, built to API 6A requirements. The transfer to the quench takes 60 seconds or less.

Ultrasonic, magnetic particle and penetrant testing by qualified inspectors, plus tensile, impact and hardness tests, chemical analysis and metallography.
